Lynx Hall built by Jasper and Rachel Lynch. Jasper Lynch made his fortune in real estate and was an established golfer and a charter member of the Ocean County Hunt and Country Club. Rachel Lynch was a prominent figure in the Lakewood Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She hosted extravagant fund-raisers, concerts, and recitals at Lynx Hall to benefit her crusade against cruelty to animals. The mansion which was built in the style of a middle-ages English castle is constructed of stone and dates from about 1900. A second building immediately behind the main house was once the stable within which, the Lynch Family’s horses, coaches and buggies were kept as well as where their caretakers would have lived. The stable, which is unoccupied at this time is in poor condition. A third building next to the original structure was probably built in the 1950’s to resemble Lynx Hall and is part of the Castle Apartment complex. in November 2004 the Lakewood zoning board granted permission to a developer to raze a 100-year-old house on the New Jersey Registry of Historic Places without any discussion of the house's significance. Recently it was (unfortunately) featured in the popular (location destroying) magazine Weird NJ. In February of 2009 the fence was re secured and the castle was gutted, it looks like its days are very numbered...

The main house was demolished in 05... the historical society of lakewood is temporarily dismantled and it will probably just turn into cheap section 8 housing.... As of August 12th it is a pile of rubble, I knew the days were numbered but it still sucks to see even the historic pine trees leveled for trashy trash to live in crappy townhouses
