     History
It all started in 1934, when two businessmen, Herman Weber, who owned a music store called Gramola, and Fredrik Seeger, owner of a financially sound wholesale business, had lunch in a restaurant in Turku. Back then Finland had no own record production and all Finnish records had to be produced abroad. Weber wanted to fix this defect but lacked proper funding. Though Seeger wasn't a musical person, he became interested, and Sointu, a Finnish record company, was established.

Because of lack of other Finnish records the ones Sointu produced became very popular. Not only were they Finnish, but also cheaper than foreign production. Because the foreign trade was ceased during the second world war the goverment started to support Finnish products, and Sointu proclaimed itself as a trust-free Finnish employer that didn't allow the money to flow outside the borders. Such patriotic advertising, along with no competition, made Sointu the most popular record label from 1940 to 1946.

The downhill started in late 40s. The economy revived and new record companies were established. To save the expenses a cheaper material was used, and because of poor quality the trust of customers was lost. Finally vinyl replaced old, breakable shellac, and last Sointu record was produced in 1956.

The production started in a storage building rented from the cotton factory of Barker. The new factory was built in 1941, and production continued there until the closure. The building was later used by several companies, and the last one, a tinsmith, moved away in 2002. After couple of years of abandonement and disrepair the building had been severely vandalized, especially during autumn 2005, when there was a devastating vandalism spree. Other explorers reported that almost everything what was left was smashed into pieces, and all walls were covered with graffiti. A fire, probably an arson, destroyed the attic in October 25th, and after standing roofless through the winter the building was finally demolished in March 2006.
