     History
Martinsville Thermal was a facility that generated steam for sale to commercial users. The facility was located next to a railroad spur and received coal via rail and by truck. Trucks drove through the front entrance, where they were weighed on a scale before driving around the rear of the building where the coal was dumped into a metal hopper. After dumping, the coal was carried via conveyor into either a silo or into the building to be burned. The facility also had the ability to burn wood. Ash was removed via truck as well. The design of the building suggests a late-1970's to early 1980's construction. The two removed boilers sitting outside the building were manufactured in 1982.
