     History
    La valeur architecturale
    Construite en 1886 par l’architecte Sir Andrew Taylor, il s’agit d’une des rares maisons d’architecture Queen Anne encore présentes à Montréal, avec sa brique rouge, ses ardoises, ses multiples pignons et sa longue cheminée.
    La valeur historique

    Vestige de l’époque faste du Square Mile où les membres de l’élite du milieu des affaires canadien avaient leurs demeures, la maison Redpath a été construite pour John Redpath, riche industriel et promoteur connu pour avoir oeuvré à la construction du canal de Lachine et fondé la raffinerie de sucre du même nom. La famille Redpath a été l’une des plus influentes familles montréalaises du XIXe siècle.

    La menace
    En 1986, Héritage Montréal et Sauvons Montréal obtenaient une injonction pour faire arrêter la démolition de cette maison historique. Malgré une entente hors cour conclue entre les parties, la maison et son site sont laissés à l’abandon par un propriétaire qui semble encore caresser des projets de démolition et de construction.

    Les actions d’Héritage Montréal
    Héritage Montréal a eu de multiples rencontres avec le propriétaire et avec les responsables municipaux. En 2002, l’organisme est intervenu devant la Commission d’arbitrage de la Ville de Montréal pour empêcher l’émission d’un permis de démolition. Depuis l’arrêt des travaux, il y a près de 20 ans, Héritage Montréal continue de maintenir l’attention des autorités municipales pour qu’elles veillent au maintien de la maison et à son intégration dans un projet immobilier respectueux du patrimoine et de l’urbanisme du Square Mile.
