     History
Love's Lookout has quiet a history, including an amphitheater damaged in a 1980's earthquake in the area. There is a lot of history about the location on the internet. The particular areas in these photos are part of what was a private section of land in the middle of the park. There was at one time, a dance hall, a few residences, and a swimming/recreation facility that had one of the largest pools I've seen anywhere. The pool is all that remains.

I had heard that the place was being demolished, and by the time I got there, it was already about half gone. The private recreational area was built in the late 40's or early 50's. The parks history has some interesting points.

The state has recently built a new and very nice rest stop at the location. One of the most spectacular views in east Texas is found here and the lookout area is worth a few minutes if you are ever in the area.
