     History
Original use as a house, built in 1843. Became Justine's Restaurant, opened by Mrs. Justine Smith in the early 1960's and was widely known as a fine dining establishment. According to an article in New York Times, April 6th, 1966, "This establishment is conceivably the best restaurant in the south. The food is excellent."

Unfortunately, even the best restaurant in the south couldn't stay in business. The date of closing is unknown at this time and several different names have come and gone through the years. The last name of this establishment was The Ivy in the late nineties (exact open and close dates unknown) and was quite the local salsa club. It seems pretty obvious that the restaurant was having extreme financial difficulties according to leftover account receipts and expense log sheets.

The last know owner was (or still is) BW Construction according to utility bills dated in early 2006. Some parts of the building are in stages of demolition/ renovation though no listings for BW Construction are found in Memphis.
