It had been in active operation from the second world war to the mid 1990s when it was the victim of cuts and loss of purpose. Since then over half the site has stood in a state of decay overlooking a nearby golf course and residential areas. The land value of the site was soon spotted by developers and between 2005 and 2007 the buildings were demolished to make way for a new road and possible housing. Only those nearer the modernised facility on the site remain but will be demolished very soon.
