An eight foot fence with barbed wire around the top has been constructed around the building to keep squatters out. The fence is new since last time I drove by here, some time last year when it caught on fire.

At one time, obviously, this was a nice place to stay. However, this part of town is rife with homeless people. The Salvation Army HQ and the Haven of Mercy are right next door to the old motel. The streets are lined with homeless people with shopping carts and dirty luggage like they're waiting on a train or something. The stench of body odor is rampant.
