History
Copied verbatim from the history of the Masson Buckingham Jct. station:
The Quebec, Montreal and Ottawa Occidental Railway (QMO) had completed this station for the line's opening in 1877. The QMO was created to encourage more settlement in the Outaouais region located west of Montreal on the north shore of the Ottawa River. It later became part of the nation's first transcontinental railway, the Canadian Pacific, which had completed it's entire Montreal-Vancouver route in 1885.
In 1898 the CPR built a shorter line between Ottawa and Montreal through Ontario, and this became the preferred route for transcontinental passenger trains. The large number of settlements and booming paper industry kept the formere QMO busy for many, many years.
Finally in the VIA era, passenger trains were discontinued. The last passenger trains, self propelled diesel electric units, last called in November 1981. Prior to this VIA had 3 different routes between Ottawa and Montreal! Trains on the other two routes were combined to run on CNR's Alexandria Sub, where they continue to operate to this day, although VIA now owns the line outright.
In 1997 the line was purchased by the Quebec and Gatineau Railway which now operates freight trains serving the paper industry of Hull, Gatineau, Buckingham, Thurso and Lachute.
