     History
Old U.S Highway 80 used to make the steep climb over these hills as a narrow and dangerous two lane blacktop. And it was too far to make it to a Ft Worth motel if you arrived here after 6:00PM in those days so there were 3 or 4 similar roadside tourist motels conveniently waiting for the weary traveler at the top of Ranger Hill.

I wish I could find more information about this little gem. I always like to imagine the type of guests that would have stayed in these cozy little cottages. Traveling salesman on a budget, Bonnie & Clyde, maybe a family on vacation if they were really small. Two other motels from the same period can also be found nearby although they are in far worse condition. This one survived well being built better with exterior walls of flagstone and cement. The interior featured hardwood floors and tongue and groove wall boards. They dont build motels like this anymore.

Someone made a half hearted attempt at restoration here but contemporary aluminum windows, three tab composition shingles and particle board flooring were not in keeping with the original design. There was also some pretty creative electrical wiring and makeshift plumbing done here too. Better wiring than you expect from transients but not what you would expect from a property owner either so maybe it was done by semi permanent squatters. The four rental units look as if they had rear entry car ports that were converted to create more living space.

There is some minor vandalism and up until fairly recent, somebody was living in the larger unit that was the motel office. Another piece of 1930s nostalgic roadside decay for you roadside "UER" afficionados on the old U.S. 80 route.
