Overview
Description
Large retail building with basement (and rumored sub-basement). The basement contains an interesting mechanical room and a one-time access to the TRRA tunnels now used by Metrolink. The first 4 floors still contain obvious use as a retail store recently, but above the 4th floor the building almost appears that it has been abandoned for decades as they gutted the building and removed the center of each floor in the 80s. The roof has amazing veiws of downtown and into Illinois where the magnificent Armour building is clearly visible. Also on the roof is a amazingly bird-poop free elevator penthouse and boiler room.
08.2021 - The entire space has been renovated. It houses apartment, an Embassy Suites, The National Blues Museum, and other various retail, restaurants, and bars. The 4ish story pedestrian bridge over Washington Ave was removed in 2010, renovations began shortly thereafter.

Interesting Features
Unique basements with mechanical rooms, large open area above the fourth floor. Many of the beautiful architechural features were hidden when central air was installed, hiding the original beautiful columns and ceilings, but holes and missing ceiling tiles allow one to peak up at the beauty that once was (and will be again when the building is renovated).

History
Started as a Stix, Baer and Fuller store much like one of the anchor stores at River Roads Mall but later became a Dillard's. It's connected by a skyway to the St. Louis Centre (also owned by Pyramid) on the 3rd and 4th floors. From the 5th floor up, the building was gutted in the 80s to become a hotel with a large atrium in the middle by removing the center part of each floor and installing a new skylight above. This left the upper floors donut shaped with a huge open room in the middle that seems to serve as a gymnasium for pigeons.
