It started out in 1877 (five years after St. Albans became a town) as a four-room schoolhouse, and was expanded upon and turned into a public school in 1926. It closed in 1990.
School was grades K-6, and they were called the Hilltoppers.
The school reported to have been torn down was the much larger St. Albans Junior High a few miles away. This building is still standing, and has been repurposed into a haunted attraction at Halloween. It is likely that there is some level of security, because it appears work is done year-round on the attraction.
It is apparently owned by the local volunteer fire department and used for training as well.
