     History
This location started out as a YMCA in 1960 with a gym, swimming pool, a couple ball fields, and activity rooms.

In 2003 the Y moved to larger facilities and the deed was transfered to a local church. About that same time it became the HQ for a youth group called the Dallas Young Marines.

A year or so later the sign out front said it was The Dallas Dream Center? Its still not clear who they were or what exactly they did but it shut down not long after they moved in.

Now it just sits there vacant and looking abandoned growing weeds and collecting graffiti. Its been vandalized and several city code violation notices have been posted on the property.

I grew up in this neighborhood and spent many a day (and night) at the old YMCA, playing basketball, boxing, swimming, lifting weights, and all for free just by virtue of being a student.

The YMCA organized various sports leagues here, offered exercize classes for senior citizens, taught swimming lessons, hosted Boy Scouts troops, summer camps and even held concerts for local youth rock bands. It was an integral part of the community.

UPDATE 01/05/2007 demolition has begun. Drove by yesterday and the pool has been filled in and the administration building has been knocked down. The gymnasium is all that still stands now.

UPDATE MAY 2008 ground breaking ceremony held for a new public library to be built here, unknown what will become of the gym.

2009, its gone nothing to see here just a library.
