     History
These were once the powerhouses of the Norfolk and Western railway. The oldest engine here was built in 1903, and all were retired in the 1950s, replaced by newer steam engines, then shortly after, diesels. Virginia Scrap Iron & Metal Co. bought these engines in the 1950s, and they've sat at the edge of the lot since that time.

     Future Plans
The owner of the scrapyard died in 2003, and donated all the railcars to the Virginia Museum of Transportation. The museum is likely to keep a few of the pieces and restore them, but the future of the rest is uncertain.
