 Overview
 Description
Two structures and a few ruins. The triangle structure is a huge concrete structure with 2 levels. The first floor (or the basement) is rather cramped. Not sure what would have happened down there. The second floor looks more like rafters since there's very limmited space and not much of an actual floor. There are various concrete pillars and platforms surrounding the triangle building.

About 20m down from the triangle building is an the square building. It is, again, constructed of concrete. This building, however, sppears to be in much worse condition. The ceiling is caving in and already chunks of concrete have let loose and fallen to the ground. There was nothing in this building but millions of core sample fragments.

     History
    Taken from:
    http://www.norther...tage/sellwood.html

The Town of Sellwood was once made up of a small group of prospectors and Indians. By 1901, many more people had moved to the town, which was a terminal along the railway. This was due to the fact that Moose Mountain Mine, which was located in the town, was full of iron. The development of the iron deposits began in 1901, and by 1907, a crushing plant had been installed.

In 1909, the Warren Lumber Company was active in the town of Sellwood.

The people of the town took on the responsibilities of “governing” themselves. The only legal officer was the company cashier, Donald A. Cowgell, who served as justice of the peace. No police station existed. A man named Lafleur was acting police officer and barber. Dr. Cook was the town doctor, although he visited only on certain days. Businesses in Sellwood included eight stores, two bake shops, four pool rooms, a bowling alley, two hotels, three boarding houses, two restaurants and a Chinese laundry.

In 1913, a new two-room school was built. This building was the center of activity. Events such as black and white movie viewings, picnics, races, and games were all held at the Sellwood school.

The Town of Sellwood was carefully planned. Electricity and telephones were soon available for every house.

At one point, the town boasted (to have) a population of 1,500 people, 800 to 1,000 of them were employed at Moose Mountain Mine. In 1893, Sudbury had a population of 1,000.

By 1915, it seemed obvious that the mine would not be open much longer. Henry Plexman moved to Capreol, believing it would be an important settlement. Tracks were being laid in the town, while a roadhouse and railroad yard were already built. He moved all of the stock from his store in Sellwood to Capreol, hoping it would become a thriving community. Many men would work in Capreol and return to their families in Sellwood.

The news that Moose Mountain Mine would be closing finally came. A length of time had passed, and many Sellwood residents had quietly moved away, and the town was soon deserted. Many families moved to Capreol.

Little remains of the Town of Sellwood today except the graveyard.

For more information about the Town of Sellwood and other interesting facts and stories about Capreol, please visit us at the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre.

    - Information from Capreol: The first 75 Years

The now flooded pit of Moose Mountain Mine is used by FNX for subaqueous disposal of waste rock from the Podolsky shaft development project.
