 Overview
 Description
A medium sized truck to rail freight terminal consisting of two large steel frame and masonry warehouses with depot, loading docks, rail spurs and office on 26 acres near downtown Dallas.

This property is also adjacent to not one but two jails! A Dallas County detention center is located on the north side and just across the tracks to the south is the Lew Sterret Justice Center which is the main Dallas city lock up.

Active L.E. patrols around both facilities and prisoner transfers take place around the clock.

  •  Interesting Features
Its large, its out of sight and out of mind. A great place to prowl around.

Also a really nice view of downtown and the nightly prisoner transfers form the jail next door.

     History
This used to be a Union Pacific rail-to-truck freight inter-modal distribution station. That pretty much tells you what went on here. They transferred stuff from trucks to trains and more stuff from trains to trucks.

The rail part hasnt been active for quite sometime but there has been truck transfer activity going on here as recently as February 2006 i.e. transferring stuff from trucks to other trucks.

The Missouri Pacific Railway owned it for a while then the Union Pacific Railroad wound up with it. See updates, it looks like a development partnership owns it now.

Looks like there was some partial initial demolition to the front office but nothing too ambitious just enough to make it look like somebody was doing something with it.

UPDATE: Dallas Planning Commission mentioned the terminal while discussing a possible revitalization plan for this industrial area. (maybe they could convert it to another jail)

UPDATE: 2007 its been demolished, nothing to see here now. Wonder who got the rest of the development plan money?

     Future Plans
Just about anytime a building in Dallas goes derelict, some city politician demands more money to "revitalize" it, as if it was ever vital to begin with. Once they get the funds they just bulldoze the place at a cut-rate price and somebody gets to keep the change. The contractor might even kick back some of that money to the politician(s) that awarded them the demolition contract.
