he Ohio Edison power plant is perched over the Ohio River in Jefferson County. In 1990 this pulverized-coal plant ran test operations, the Ohio Edison Tires-To-Energy Project, to determine the feasibility of scrap tire and tire-derived fuel. While the tests were successful in proving that old tires were a viable fuel source, the power plant was closed shortly thereafter in 1993 - presumably because of the newer efficient power plant which was built slightly upriver. Located in the very small town of Toronto, OH the mammoth brick facility is a multi-leveled maze interconnected by innumerable stairways, ladders, coal conveyor belts, and freight elevators. Speckled throughout the building are numerous workshops, locker rooms, offices and laboratories while a myriad of gauges, knobs, and switches decorate control panels. Iridescent silver paint reflects light in the huge main bay which is mostly devoid of major machinery. A towering smoke stack with flashing strobes, a water tower, a dock, and miscellaneous outbuildings can all be found on the building grounds.

Not really sure, the town it is in is way to poor to be able to get this thing cleared of the amounts of asbestos they have used. In 2007, several offenders were caught rowing across the Ohio River stealing copper out of the facility. Police drive-bys are now common.
