     History
Before the land the crumbling Salesian School is on was purchased in 1925 by the Salesian fathers, the property was many things from parks to a boxing ring to a rehabilitation center for soldiers. A water tower erected by former owner Grant Hugh Brown already existed on the land, and music would play from speakers in this tower during the holidays. Two structures built by David Haight in the 1700's were joined together by Brown as one large Victorian mansion with 10 bedrooms, four bathrooms, and six fireplaces. In 1931, the brick dormitory building was constructed and would serve as a Catholic school for boys, a junior seminary, and a summer camp until 1985 when it closed its doors due to declining enrollment.

According to former caretaker David A. Keller, there is a 30x30 pre-Civil War cemetery on the grounds surrounded by a fieldstone wall and has an attached crypt. The cemetery is unrelated to the Salesians or the school. About 25 years after the Salesians moved in, they removed all of the stones, used them as landfill, and converted the crypt into a boathouse to store rowboats and chemicals for the swimming pond they built just in front of the crypt. In fact, a marble obelisk which represents the staff of life was removed from the cemetery to the grotto, and the original carving was replaced with a plaque commemorating fallen war heroes. About six people can actually vouch for the existence of this forgotten cemetery, and Dave Keller is one of them. He fought to have the obelisk returned to its rightful location and the cemetery preserved. Because of his efforts, the town of Goshen has finally passed a law protecting cemeteries in the Village.

The mansion was condemned after a collapse on one side, and eventually was demolished.

     Future Plans
Originally, the Salesian property was supposed to be developed and houses were going to be built on it. Mayor Scott Wohl has not only passed the law to protect cemeteries in the town of Goshen and to restore the cemetery on the property, but has fought to salvage the old dormitory building and turn the grounds into a passive park. If the building can't be saved, the land will be the future site of the Goshen Public Library.
