Providence Hospital opened its doors in January 1905, as The Providence Sanatorium. It was sponsored by The Daughters of Charity of St Vincent DePaul out of Dallas. It continued operations at this location until 1989, when it relocated to a more convienent location on the freeway in West Waco. When the hospital moved out, the building was converted in an acute assisted living center. The St. Catherine Center reamined in this building until 2001, when it too, joined the hospital with new digs out on the freeway. Providence is Waco's oldest continually run hospital.
