The site is now essentially a large mud pit. The former quarry and processing areas are in the process of being developed into a subdivision. The one building that remains on site is being used as site offices by the developers.

Board Hearing –Canada Brick Lands
If you've lived in or around Streetsville for any length of time,
you will no doubt be familiar with "Canada Brick". For more than 50
years, this operation has flourished on the north side of
Britannia Road, just west of the Mullet Creek. Hundreds of local
people have worked at the plant and many others have been
involved with supplying goods, transporting finished products and
servicing equipment. Most local residents have never been to the
plant itself and many are surprised by the size of the
property - over 220 acres. Development has surrounded the
site on all four sides, making this land-locked site one of the largest
undeveloped parcels of land left in the city.
This plant, like its predecessors McFarren and Cooksville Brick,
has reached the end of its useful life. City Council turned down
Jannock's application to redevelop the Canada Brick lands
into a residential/employment (mixed use) site. Their plan would
have seen the area developed"

CANADA BRICK: STREETVILLE WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Brick's Streetsville Plant,
located on 220 acres north
of Britannia Road West, is
closing. The site's
Queenston shale used to
make clay brick has been
depleted. The first of four
kilns has been shut down
and the employees required
to run it let go. The factory
will close December 14. It
is a sad time for those at the
plant where Canada Brick
as a company began.
Laurene Payne, an employee since 1957 and now Manager of Recruitment and Payroll,
recalled how it got started. Back in the 1950s, Ernest and Ruby McSwain while on a trip
to Buffalo from North Carolina were encouraged to visit Toronto. During a tour of the
city they happened upon Pottery Road and visited the Toronto Brick Works. Mr.
McSwain, who had business interests in the pottery industry, was convinced he could
make better bricks. The McSwains and some partners purchased land in Streetville and
founded Canada Brick. Production began in March 1956. They sold the business to a
conglomerate in 1961, it was sold to another company, then to Jannock Limited. On May
14, 1999, the present owner, Hanson PLC acquired the company and leased the land
from Jannock Properties which plans to develop the site after production ceases.
Through various mergers and acquisitions, Canada Brick has become the largest
manufacturer of clay brick in Canada and second largest brick manufacturer in North
America. Two of its local brickyard aquisitions were the McFarren brickyard off Thomas
Street in Streetsville in 1979 (it closed in 1992) and in 1985 the Cooksville brickyard which stopped brick production in December 1991. Now, in addition to Streetsville, it has manufacturing plants in Aldershot, Burlington, Ottawa and St. Lawrence Brick in Quebec.
