     Interesting Features
    It is an old airplane! Cockpit seems to be intact, there's an engine sitting on the ground under it, bar, rear lavatories.

    "Originally delivered to Trans Canada Airlines (officially renamed Air Canada 1965) May 10th, 1954 as an L1049C-55-94. Original Canadian registration was CF-TGE with a TCA fin number of 405. Later converted to an L1049E then to an L1049G (Super G). Aircraft withdrawn from TCA service March 15th, 1962 total hours 19,273.

    October 16th, 1963 it was sold to Aircraft Radio Services, Connecticut and re-registered N8472R. It seems the aircraft never left Montreal and was sold again to Montreal Air Services in 1964 and re-registered CF-RNR.

    In the summer of 1964, it was then leased to World Wide Airways Inc. In or around August 1965, World Wide Airways went bankrupt and the aircraft was seized. At the time of the seizure, the aircraft was in a Montreal hanger undergoing a repair to a cracked wing spar. Shortly after this the aircraft was stripped of it's engines, electronics and usable spares (possibly by Nordair, at the time a Connie operator) then put in to storage.

    In 1968, the aircraft was dismantled and moved to Ste. Marc des Carriere, Quebec. The new owner was not able to obtain the necessary permits to convert the aircraft to a bar restaurant and the aircraft was moved to St. Jean Port Joli, Quebec and remained stored in its disassembled state.

    During July 1985 the aircraft was reassembled and finally put on display in June 1987 at the Musee Les Retrouvailles in St. Jean Port Joli.

    Circa 1991
    In September 1995, Philip Yull obtained the aircraft. On June 6th-9th, 1996, the aircraft was moved by road to Toronto's Pearson International Airport where it was restored. On August 5th, 1996 the aircraft was moved to the Regal Constellation Hotel for use as a conference facility. The conference facility did not work out, but it was used as cocktail lounge and lunch deli until August, 1997.

    In August, 1998, the aircraft was moved to the north end of Pearson Airport (corner of Derry & Torbram). October 15th, 1998 it was opened as a bar restaurant which closed January, 2002. I went in a half dozen times for dinner & drinks. The beer was cold and the nachos were great...unfortunately all the times I was in there we were the only paying customers. On the good side, from a quick look the cockpit instrumentation looked intact. The seats are reported to be originals (they look more modern to me), but the tables and bar are newer additions. The bathrooms had many original fixtures, except I don't think American Standard toilets were factory options on Connies :-)

    Shortly before it closed (early 2001 by my memory), the aircraft was put up for sale through a Brampton, Ont. realtor. The last price I was quoted by email before the listing expired was "first offer over $100,000.00 Canadian should take it".

    In a strange twist, the aircraft was placed in an eBay auction for $200,000.00 US. Not only did it not get any bids, nobody involved even knew it was for sale!

    As of July 27th, 2005, I have learned that the aircraft is no longer owned by Phillip Yull. The common assumption was that it was owned by the Greater Toronto Airport Authority, but it seems this is not true and the aircraft has a new owner. Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks."

    As of 7/31/12, it has been fully restored back to TCA livery, and is on display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.

    The plane was exported to the USA and is now being reassembled and restored to be part of the Museum of Flight (alongside a Concorde and Air Force One)



    The Museum of Flight at Seattle has acquired title to this proud bird and crews are busy dis-mantling the aircraft at the north end of Toronto Intl. Airport. The aircraft fuselage will be moved to the Air Canada paint hangar to be re-done in original Trans Canada Air Lines scheme before shipment to Seattle.
