Along with it's neighboring power plant, Carr-Lowrey brought jobs as well as residents to the Westport district of Baltimore.
C-L produced many different types of glass throughout it's long history, but it produced glass cosmetic containers from the early 1980's until it's closing.
It was sold in 1999 by an investor to the Abell Foundation, who planned to keep the plant running indefinetly. However, due to financial troubles and Baltimore's ever so gradual push from industrial zoning to residential, Carr-Lowery was forced to close in 2001.
It is demolished. The land will be converted to residential and commercial zoning, but specific plans have not been made for the area.
