An unassuming house from the outside but very elaborate on the inside, recording artist Dough MacPhee spared no expense to make this house a mansion of beautiful quality. Not sure why he left but it's clear a LOT of cash was spent modifying the house. Now it sits rotting away on a quiet portion of Westney Road in north Pickering (the community of Greenwood).

A beautiful house with extra work put in including a superb spiral staircase to the basement and other classy modifications. Stacks of MacPhee's vinyl records (still shrinkwrapped) can be found as well...

Once owned by Dough MacPhee, noted New Waterford-based Cape Breton pianist, this mansion is now abandoned. Doug MacPhee comes from a family steeped in the traditional music of Cape Breton Island. Doug has performed with all the great fiddlers of Cape Breton over the years. Although he prides himself in his ability as an accompanist, Doug is also known as Cape Breton's foremost piano soloist. Doug's music can be heard on more than twenty recordings in addition to his five solo albums. Favourite selections from his LPs can be heard on his newly released compilation CD. Recent recordings include CDs with Donald MacLellan (The Dusky Meadow, 2003), John Campbell (Timeless, 1999) and David Greenberg (Tunes Until Dawn, 2000). Doug has played on numerous television and radio programs over the years, including CBC television's "Ceilidh," a national series featuring Cape Breton fiddlers. Doug is one of three musicians featured in the film "From the Heart," which looks at the role of traditional music in Canada. Doug has toured extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Scotland, and Europe. In addition to making regular appearances at the big outdoor concerts in Cape Breton, he has performed and taught at numerous North American folk festivals.
