The newer (red brick) extension was built in 1951. It used to be called Parkwood Hospital, and served as a veterans hospital for both world wars. This building was replaced by the "pavilions" located closer to the current site of Parkwood Hospital. Currently this 'grand' building on Grand Avenue has housed the elderly requiring nursing attention and no longer belongs to the public. The name "Parkwood" can still be seen on the concrete gates leading to the property on the Grand Ave entrance.
