In the 40's it began suppling steam to homes and buildings for heat. In the 60's the coal boilers were shut down and Peabody Oil and Gas fired boilers were installed on the opposite side of the plant and continue to run to this day. In the 80's the plant was sold by PP&L and became Harrisburg Steam Works. A cogeneration plant was added in the 80's to sell electricity to PP&L. In the late 90's it was sold to NRG energy.
