This was a satellite property of the State prison system, producing bricks for the system. Prisoners with good behavior could be sent here to this medium security facility to work. It housed up to 300 working prisoners. There is a handful of people who have had success with the owner and family, and rec'd both guided and unguided tours. However the Google Machine reveals COUNTLESS tales of the opposite and are greeted with a shotgun with order to leave, and no interest in hearing your intentions. It seems the key is interested in history, but for personal and non-profit reasons, and reaching out in advance. BUT -even still you will likely be turned away. For profit photags and ghost hunters will most definitely be barked off the property. The owner also owns the property across the street, so even stopping and snapping a couple quick shots will most likely get you promptly confronted.

The Roseville Prison was built in 1926. It operated for twenty years, from 1927 through 1933 and later from 1952 through 1966. The medium security prison housed about 300 inmates. The inmates worked in a brick plant located at the facility. They were capable of producing 30,000 bricks each day.

The wife of the owner has passed, but her vision was " to refurbish the two houses that formerly housed Roseville State Prison wardens and use the surrounding grounds to park flatbed trucks for an Illinois-based trucking company". There does not appear to be any activity with the "abandoned" buildings, but the owner does use the property for storage for his trucking company. He, along with children and grandchildren live on the property.
