History
Built around 1937, the Saint-Julien Church located in Lachute is a typical late art-deco style church with strong anglican influences. The buidling is made of reinforced concrete for the foundations, the wall structure is of large brick covered by stone veneer for the exterior finish, inside finish is of asbestos wall parge. All decoration is of fake marble plaster. Woodwork is of quarter sawn oak typical for the era, sadly any interesting interior workmaship pieces have been removed with the exception of the tinted glass that is still in good shape.
Closed around 1994, because of something that fell down during a wedding: from what I've been told, it would cost a few $1,000,000.00 to bring the building back to a legal state. While slowy rotting, the city is waiting for the place to be torn down, something that could happen this summer.
Update: As of December 27th 2006, all embellishments, including the cladding on the walls and the windows, have been removed.
