History
The school was built in 1909 and named after general John B Gordon, one of Robert E Lee’s most trusted generals. The school flourished in the 50’s and many hold fond memories of running across the street to buy soda pop. However the school began to decline as Atlanta grew, forcing it to close in 1995. The Gordon school has been vacant ever since.
Suffered fire damage in mid 2014.
Update: The Gordon school was demolished and the Alexan apartments now stand in its place.
