The mid north rail lines were once the lifeblood of the rural mid-north of South Australia. The line was originally laid to service the growing population who flocked to these towns during mining booms. As mine yields declined, so did the population. These days, the mid north is mostly grain farming and livestock. Rail still exists to service agriculture however the modern, more comfortable and faster automobile negates the need for passenger rail transport. The mid north line is littered with abandoned rail stations and associated services.
