Although Pittsburgh has relatively few UE locations since they've torn down practically all the steel mills, it is my favorite city in the US for one simple reason: Geography / topography / street patterns. It is the hilliest large city in the US, and the location of this abandoned restaurant is probably the most prime example of the beauty the steep terrain has to offer. Perched atop a high ridge across one of the two large rivers from downtown, it has an incredible view of the city. It's hard to believe the place has gone this long without being redeveloped as luxury condos or a tourist attraction. This abandoned building looks like a small school from the street; however the inside indicates that the building was a very nice upscale restaurant. Awesome view of the city. My parents once overheard somebody say they had taken one of the funiculars up the bluff in Pittsburgh, and eaten at the best Italian restaurant they had ever been to at the top. This almost has to be the place, as it is less than a block from the top of the more-frequented funicular. There are several active restaurants with views a mile or so down the street.

Great view of downtown Pittsburgh, mirrors on the ceiling, rather unique interior. Kind of confusing to get out of certain areas and into others. Update (5/17/2012) - The building is completely gone, demolished about 6 months ago.

Frankly, I haven't looked into it. From the outside, the building looks like an old school. It was converted into a gourmet restaurant later on, and abandoned sometime prior to 2000. It looks like they tried to renovate it into a hotel because there area bunch of rooms with kitchens and bathrooms in them. It would have been a really high class hotel because the view is AMAZING!!!
