Shannon Park is a former navy housing community for families of Canadian Navy personnel and was part of the CFB Halifax defense complex. It opened in the 1950's to address shortages of housing for members of the navy and their families after the Second World War. It includes various housing complexes, a community centre, church, arena, and a school that was formally a high school but now serves as an elementary school.

-- update sep 2016, most of this has been torn down and will all be gone before winter. ---- Probably going to be torn all down. Once the heat was shut off in 2003 the buildings quickly molded so they really cannot be reused. The whole site is contaminated this way. October 26th, 2005 - Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly wants to tear down to build a stadium for Commonwealth Games (if they win the bid) and a future football stadium. December 24, 2007 - "The future of Shannon Park, the former military residential complex in Dartmouth that was slated to be the main location of the ill-fated 2014 Commonwealth Games, remains in limbo." --Chronicle Herald Business Section (Halifax) July 23, 2011 - Announced that half of the complex will be torn down in a couple months. (October 20th, 2014 - Still has yet to happen..) October 20th(ish), 2014 - Noticed that CLC has had all building re-sealed on the bottom levels. None of the building's on site are currently accessible to anyone.
