For all we could find out about this place, it was a building for the care and rehabilitation of the mentally and physically handicapped, and also apparently used for dentistry.
It was closed in 1997 for lack of funds and interest.
Before the times of Political Correctness, it used to be called The Georgia Retardation Center. No cases of abuse were apparent. The state realized private care was more suitable for the patients, and desired by both patients and their families.
As a recent note, Brook Run is being turned into a community park, and the old hospital is being torn down to create an aviary.
