Overview

Description
A sprawling open industrial area incorporating an abandoned abattoirs. A favourite topside spot for South Australia's urban explorers. The area has about 5 main sub-areas: Original red brick slaughter house and processing plant, office blocks, boiler room, service sheds and a more modern, smaller slaughter house. The red brick building is extremely creepy. Very dark, dank, dirty and quiet.

Interesting Features
Too many to list. The old brick building is a multistory, archaic monolith of dark rooms, passages nooks and crannies. Plenty of left over industrial equipment. Massive old style boiler room. Newer addition slaughter house with evil and torturous machinery.

History
Built in the early 1900's this slaughter house processed meat for the city of Adelaide and many rural areas. It has had a number of additions and expansions since first built, however most of the technology is way outdated. It was decomissioned in about 1998 (I think) when a completely new abattoirs was built nearby. The place is now abandoned although much of it has been demolished.

Future Plans
Currently being demolished. Will probably end up in developer's hands for retail or yuppie apartments. I think there has been some argument over heritage listing of some parts.
