A former Asian/Polynesian/Hawaiian themed restaurant. It appears that renovations were started, which included indiscriminately spray painting the entire interior white. Then it was abandoned for good, with almost all the kitchen equipment stripped out. It was remarkably open and well-preserved for an abandoned building in such a high-profile location.

Closed January, 2002. It's now the site of the Department of Homeland Security building.

Shortly after it closed, there were rumors of a new owner who was going to turn it into a sports bar.
Howver, say hello to your local Federal Government. The Hukilau is now being leased by the Federal Government for the Key West offices of the Department of Homeland Security.
