Surrounded by 600 acres of parkland, the hotel had a 30,000 square foot convention area and two restaurants (Harvest Restaurant and The Terrace Lounge). Built by Four Seasons Hotels, the hotel was sold to Holiday Inn and later to a private owner. The first tower and most of the building were built in 1962, with the second taller tower built in 1974. The lower tower, now demolished, was designed by notable architect Peter Dickinson, who also designed the Sony Centre among many buildings in Toronto. The hotel had 570 rooms on 10 acres of land. The hotel's lower building, built in 1963, became the Don Valley Hotel before closing in 2005. The taller tower, at 23 storeys and having 269 rooms, was built in 1971. It suffered a fire involving loss of life in January 1981. The hotel fell into disrepair in the late 80's, and recovered only briefly in the late 90's. Four Seasons Hotel operates another luxury hotel in downtown Toronto and will open another in 2009.
