The building is a three level (including basement) structure with two main wings. There is an auditorium, classrooms, and many offices. There is a hydraulic elevator that is stuck open in the basement and some sparse remains of a cafeteria.

There is a lot of beautiful peeling paint. There are many windows on all sides of the building so the lighting in each room changes a lot through out the day. Even at night there is plenty of light coming in from street lights, and the view from the roof is nice although you are VERY exposed up there. Around the back there is a quiet courtyard that once held a nice garden. After it was closed the building was used for police tactical training and there are many shattered doors from various types of explosives.

The official name of this building was BakerWood. It was named after Col. EA Baker and Lewis M. Wood, President of the CNIB for 37 years until 1955. Bakerwood became the new National Headquarters of the CNIB in 1956. The building was significantly expanded in 1969 with many improvements such as a hydraulic passenger elevator and an auditorium as well as much more floor space.
Sadly in the late 90's the CNIB made plans to relocate and the building was sold to developers who will soon be building a 9 story, 200 unit condo project on the land. The official closing date of Bakerwood was August 30th, 2002.
After the building was abandoned it was used for several police tactical training exercises including one memorable incident where the explosives used to blow open a door shattered windows and thus threw glass shards out into traffic on the street adjacent the building.

There was a fair amount of local controversy over the planned condo development. A group of concerned neighbors tried to derail the project but they were predictably unsuccessful. Most local media outlets followed the story closely.
