The place is full of colors and an absolute joy to photograph on a sunny afternoon. Almost every classroom has a pile of vintage wooden desks in them.
I have not explored the second floor or basment yet.

As of July 10th, 2012, the buildings have been gutted and wrecking crews are on site.
From the Valdese town website:
By 1938, the twenty-two rooms of the Old Rock School could no longer house the number of students attending. so Francis Garrou High School, bearing the motto "Education is the True Foundation of Civil Liberty" was constructed. Named for a local representative to the General Assembly in Raleigh. The new High School would serve until 1974 at which time it was converted into a junior high school and high school students attended the newly constructed East Burke High School in nearby Icard.

A friend who lives in Valdese claims that the school has been slated to be torn down for years but it has never taken place. The town wants to replace it with a bed and breakfast.
