     History
    The Sears Roebuck Building was the largest structure in the midtown Memphis area and made Memphis the center for the large mail order business. It became the buying headquarters for several Southern and midwestern states.

    This Memphis landmark was built in 1927 at a cost $15 million. A commercial Art Deco design that covered more than 4 acres. On opening day, August 27, 1927, 47,000 people visited the the 634,000 square foot retail and distribution center.
