It was built without a bathroom, and one was added, along with the current kitchen and a bedroom, back in the 40's. Built circa 1924, the pioneer couple, now deceased, subdivided their farm more than once. First, they sold a sizable rear portion to the City of Burnaby to be used as a community park. This park still bears numerous trees from the original orchard. Decades later, they again subdivided their property to support a large housing complex which shadows the home today, and was built using the same colours as the old home. As the surrounding neighborhood was chewed up and spit out by the skytrain line, road realignments and aggressive development, the poor old craftsman farmhouse found itself in a most undesirable location. Very well hidden from the rest of the world, and actually using well water up until the mid eighties, this property has finally given up its leghold to the ever dominating urban development.
