The warehouse portion and the eastern silo appeared to have been abandoned for quite some time, though the warehouse was renovated in 2010. The active silos were used by St. Mary's Cement for mixing of cement with coal ash, instead of gravel. St. Mary's was just leasing the one set of silos. The eastern silo was in very bad shape and demolished in November 2010. The top silo room was in a very sad state of disrepair and looked to have been abandoned for quite sometime. Very unsafe and completely inaccessible. The other silo is quite intact, on the other hand. There is also a large warehouse/factory building on site, which is somewhat interesting (Link to DB page.) Milling operations began in 1893 when Queen City Mills started an operation on the site, which became Campbell Flour Mills by the early 20th century and eventually Maple Leaf Mills. It was a large complex with an office building on Monarch Road, a road just south of Junction Road and Old Weston Road, which has been abandoned with few traces left. It can still be found on Google Maps. At one point, there was also a Modern postwar era office building on the western part of the site closest to Keele Street. Flour milling spurred other industries in the area. By the 1970s, for instance, Weston Bakeries operated at the Keele Centre complex at 500 and 530 Keele Street. (It's the complex with the second storey ramps for trucks at West Toronto Street.) Bunsmaster Bakery operated in the warehouse on the site which stands to this day. Canada Bread is the last of these industries with their plant on Cawthra, though it is slated to close. The complex declined by the 1980s and a lot was demolished in the early 1990s. The demolition contractor was Greenspoon. The two silo structures and warehouse were spared. One of the silos was reused by St. Mary's Cement. In 2010, Lafarge acquired the site, presumably for similar operations to those of St. Mary's.
