Best known as "Camp Fossenvue", a retreat for the wealthy, which opened in 1875. Unique because women were encouraged there to pursue outdoor activities society at the time considered inappropriate for women to be involved in -- archery, tennis, etc. Visited by Susan B. Anthony and other famous suffragettes. A portion of the original site on the National Register -- "Queen's Castle”, built in 1899. Sold to the Boy Scouts of America in 1924, who renamed it "Camp Seneca". Sold in 1996 to the Trust for Public Land, which conveyed the title to the United States Forest Service.
