  •  Interesting Features
Heavy duty seclusion rooms in their own separate corridor, some strange and artistic graffiti, and definitely the roof. On a clear day, you can see the Boston skyline perfectly. That in itself makes a trip to Gaebler worth your time. It's also pitch black inside. The gym and upper floors with the secure rooms are the prime part. It is heavily vandalized and full of mold. Its long past its prime as a spot to explore. Worth a trip,?barely.

     History
The Gaebler School was created for mentally disturbed adolescents aged 14 or younger, after multiple complaints of young people, females especially, being mistreated or intimidated by the adult patients of The Metropolitan State Hospital. In 1991, supporters of the hospital (of which there were many), patients’ relatives, staff members and mental health advocates struggled to keep the facility in use, but to no avail. It closed its doors for good in 1992 to the dismay of many.

Most adolescents in the school’s care were sent to various other mental wards over the state. Many of the patients were sent to detention halls after the courts were cornered into speeding up trials of the young people, as they had been in queue due to their mental states and housing situations. Still some children were left to fend for themselves in what – to them – was a cruel, cruel world. The majority of patients in this group failed to follow up with out patient care.

     Future Plans
The plans are unknown, but the city has began preparations for demolition. The parking lots were all dug up last checked, and the doors were all open with fresh wires and construction lamps. This building may not be around much longer.
