Fortress VII (Komar) was built between 1875 and 1878 and subsequent put in action immediately. Through creation of the explosiveness shell, however, forced to modernize the fort already few years later, which occurred to extensive conversions in the year 1889. In the connection to the throat ditches so-called connection batteries were built, in which in total four 12 cm- cannons, four 12 cm- mortars, four short 15cm-cannons as well as six 15 cm- ring cannons in position were brought. On the gun banks in the inner one of the fort six stood besides 9 cm- cannons as well as four long 15 cm. The throat and spitz ditch safeguarded in addition still in total 8 cm- cannons. A small railway was placed through the throat ditch in order to be able to supply the right and left battery with ammunition. Was practiced then already on the military training areas of Wahner as well as Elsenborn in the Eifel, where one marched on foot. The last and largest conversion found out the fort, however, first immediately before the 1st world war, than one on the right page about the latrines of the throat barracks a so-called "space pranks" built. This was an artillery bunker with external walls up to 4 meters thick and with guns that could cover the space between fort VII and fort VI loads. In turn a bunker constructed in an identical fashion was in the fort VI, thus all idea location lines were sealed off hermetically. The fact that in the year 1908 the Schlesw.- Holst. Foot artillery Reg. no. 9 "moved in", gives basis to the assumption, that this last modernization between 1905 and 1908 occurred since in the year 1905 a fortress general staff inspection was carried out by General Moltke. After statements of older time witnesses there are supposed to have been then large linking tunnels, however this could not still be proved up to now since no entrances were found up to now.
