I was in TO on the Monday following the final toppling of the tower on Saturday August 24, 2002. I decided to visit the site, and see how far a little social engineering would get me. I pulled into the parking lot (workboots on already) , put on my hardhat, and marched right over to where Mr. Foreman was standing by the excavator with the hydraulic pinchers. I gave him my card, talked a little tower "shop talk" and then asked if I could roam & take some pix. "No problem, just stay clear of the excavator swing radius". And away I went. After snapping a disk worth of pix, I asked the foreman about all the scrap & he explained that all the copper in the Tx lines and hard waveguide were going to be scrapped for value and all the rest of the structure was going to be given to CBC employees or auctioned off. He told me to grab a chunk if i wanted, so I did. I thanked him and made my way off site, back to my truck in the parking lot. As I went through the gates, 3 CBC white hats passed me and my steel memento and questioned if I was with Murray, and stated that all the members of the fallen structure were spoken for. I kept walking and yelled over my shoulder, "independent consultant, your foreman gave me this....I'm late for a meeting (walking faster to my truck) I gotta go, bye", and threw the orange hunk of angle in the bed of the pickup & pulled out onto Jarvis. I was sweating as I can remember, maybe because it was sweltering that day, or because I had eluded and escaped CBC brass. That's one for the books!

Workboots for obvious reasons, and hard hat for the "I belong here" look!

Erected for the CBC in 1952 by the Dominion Bridge Company, I have personal family ties to the structure. My great uncle Claude was a steel rigger with Dominion, and was on the crew that erected the "Eiffel on Jarvis". For all the real history, see the weblinks portion of this location.
