  •  Interesting Features
    Very intertesting architecture. Colonial style double balcony spans the majority of the Fountain Street facade. Original stone fences grace the rear pathway behind the hotel. The latest renovation was started with a tasteful facelift and repainting of the building and the addition of red steel roofing. I can recall years ago, the dull grey facade with black and white striped canvas awnings over every window.

    <S.K. note>

    My wife tells me there's an old 'dumb waiter/laundry chute' in the building that runs between the floors - and connects up with a ladder on the top floor to gain access to the attic.

    <Just on that note, unfortunately I do believe the dumb waiter was removed, I don't remember seeing it, and there is no more attic, just a big space>

     History
    Built in the 1800's after the discovery of "healing waters" that were high in sulphur content. People from all around and visitors from Europe sought a stay at the hotel to cure various ailments that the sulphur baths claimed to heal. It became a retirement home during its last full time occupancy. Over the past two decades, several people have tried to redevelop the site, only to fail. The current status of the hotel would lead me to believe, that once again, a failed renovation/redevelopment has happened.
