Several old buildings; a "town" of sorts, the gift shop / Mcdonalds, the Pony express, a rodeo, very much fun. Also an old sawmill setup with a large steam engine, very interesting.

This place is a leftover from the golden age of the roadside attraction. Frontier Town opened in 1952, in a time before Northern NY had an interstate highway. Originally, the park relied on US Route 9 to bring carloads of tourists in. In 1967, when Interstate 87 opened above Lake George NY (christened the Northway), the park thrived on the tourists traveling the new interstate highways. This place is like stepping back into that dream. It's very quiet, but in the background, the Interstate never stops humming. It's worth a stroll around. New item; After Duke's Sat/ Sun trip, I'll be revealing a suprise Bizzy and I didn't know about or discover at F Town; no I'm not telling yet! I'm going to do a bunch of digital, and for the sake of creativity will shoot the first rolls of B and W film for me in over 15 years (and some color, of which I will splurge on Provia or something high Q). I'm submitting my photos to Adirondack life Magazine. I'll unleash my unexpected suprise on Monday!

from www.adkhistorycenter.org: During the golden age of small amusement parks, thousands came to the carefully crafted theme park, Frontier Town. Opened in 1952, the Adirondack attraction provided local seasonal employment and supported related service industries such as motels, gas stations, and restaurants. Frontier Town was a link in a chain of small theme parks that drew families to the area. By the 1990's, the historically based attraction included authentic industries from North Hudson's past, such as Roth's Forge and sawmill, as a part of its display in the mid 1990's, the park closed for good. Locals say that the owner simply went bankrupt. It sits dormant on the side of Interstate, weathering Adirondack winter after Adirondack wibter, In a few years, if this place isn't revived, it will be nothing more than a set of collapsed buildings. In the area, this place has the dubious distinction of having the only McDonalds franchise to ever close for lack of business! (not totaly true, in canada the ville st laurent the mcdonalds on laurentien boulevard closed from lack of business ofter 4 years, as did the one in montreal on cote st luc road) The property will be up for sale for tax auction on October 21st. It's too bad really, because it will go to a developer no doubt and it will become commercial property (although Cabelas would be great for the Schoon/ North Hudson community. I (Duke's ) will be going there this weekend to photograph every inch of this place this weekend, including the interior of the Mcdonalds/ gift shop for posterity.
