Mrs. Winchester was so arthritic that she could no longer get up and down stairs that had full height risors. In many parts of the house, she tore out the staircases and installed short risor stairs that switched back and forth. In this particular set, which went up and down 4 stories, you sometimes had to go down down up up up to go up, or up up down down to go down... I tripped and fell like a retard on these stairs. Fortunately for me, I didn't have far to go since the staircase switched back and forth every 8 feet or so.
