Well spotted. I think you're right. 6032.9 hours is actually much less than I'd expect. It's less than a year's continuous work, and this factory was making dairy products for over 50 years. Perhaps they reset the meters when they overhauled the refrigeration plant? I can't remember the reading on the other meter, but it was lower, maybe 2000-ish.

Obviously the meters would reset themselves come 10,000 hours like a car's odometer?

Yes, they would reset after 9999.9 hours and start all over from zero again, so I guess we really have no clue how many hours these things might actually have! Just from my previous exposure to that sort of thing, I highly doubt a person manually resets them after a service. Most times in industrial situations, they just let the meters go on and on and on... it actually makes it easier to track (if you are writing it down) what has been done and when it was done to a given machine.
What machine was this particular hour meter attached to?

It's on the control cupboard for one of the two refrigeration compressors, so I assume it measured the hours for which the compressor was in use.
