The government were pretty thorough in removing the old public warning system after the Cold War... could this have been a siren for factory use rather than air-raid use?

Luckily I managed to save it. A little negotiation and I purchased it from the demolition crew. But it's going to be a challenge to restore...

Yes. I started off at £15. Given the effort and time it took them to get it down, I think it was a fair price.
