These are all from my friend Jason who joined me on an overnight hike to goat canyon trestle. I'm the fatty and he is the beastie boy. Enjoy.

Edit: And yes we repelled off of it.

I believe those trains will be left on those tracks for a LONG time. The rail line was placed under an embargo back in the fall of 2008 due to some of the smaller trestles (there are many!) being deemed unsafe to support the weight of a locomotive. No trains are allowed to run on that line from Plaster City in the east to Jacumba in the west (this includes the Goat Canyon trestle). No trains in, no trains out -- that means those rail cars will be there forever. Can't move 'em. The longer the rail line sits embargoed while the much-needed repairs are NOT made, the worse the line will get. Already people are reporting small landslides, boulders, and other stuff on the tracks in certain areas. The tunnels require constant upkeep as well, and that upkeep is not being done. The maintenance bill keeps rising, but there is nobody to pay it.

The Goat Canyon trestle really is worth seeing. Hope you can get there someday!

Your bud took some good shots. I like the "Indiana Jones" shot on top of the train.

The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us?

Thanks guys. This was really a fun hike and I'd do it again.

You can actually take a motor bike out there. We saw a couple. There's also another route people take from the north side that is rugged but only 3 miles one way.

Your bud took some good shots. I like the "Indiana Jones" shot on top of the train.

We loved 'em too. There are actually two trains along the tracks but for whatever reason he didn't have the first one.
